11 beaches in Pattaya and near the city - a detailed overview
Pattaya - Russian-speaking tourists who dream about the sea most often go to this Thai resort. I must say that the beaches of Pattaya are far from the best place to relax by the sea, since the water there is often not crystal clear, the sand is rather coarse, and in places it is very dirty. But still, among them there are places suitable for swimming and relaxation on the seashore. Well, behind the tropical paradise, as we used to see it on the best advertising photos of Pattaya beaches, you need to go outside the city or to the islands.
Interesting fact! By law, the beaches in Pattaya are municipal, that is, open to all comers. But in fact, if the terrain allows you to restrict access to the beach, which is located next to a large hotel, this beach actually turns into a private one.
There is no way to tell about all the beaches of the resort: there are a lot of them, because the coastline along which Pattaya is located has a length of 25 km. And so that you can understand if there are clean beaches in Pattaya, and so that you can choose the best place to relax, consider 11 beaches in the city and its environs, which are most popular. For greater convenience, we will describe them in the same order in which these beaches are marked on the map of Pattaya: from north to south.
In order not to repeat, we immediately note that on all the described beaches, visitors can enjoy a wide variety of entertainment: boat trips and canoeing, parasailing, as well as banana, jet skiing and jet skiing, catamarans.
Tourists note! The Thai government issued a decree according to which, on Wednesdays, it is impossible to arrange beach equipment. This law applies to all mainland and island beaches. On Wednesdays, locals and visitors to Thailand can enjoy sunbathing on a towel or mat. You can buy a compact folding mat "at every corner", its cost, depending on the size, is 150-300 baht.
Wongamat beach, or Naklua
In Naklua (the northern part of the city), Wongamat beach is located, which is often called, like the whole area - Naklua. The main feature of this area, located very close to the resort center, is the lack of a highway.
Along the entire beach there are hotels and the best condominiums of the north, and in some places (especially in the southern part of Wongamat), there are 5-20 meters from the fence of the hotels to the sea. Although, largely thanks to elite hotels, whose management takes care of creating conditions for relaxation, Wongamat remains the cleanest beach in Pattaya. Nevertheless, trash comes across here. Water is also not perfectly clean and transparent - it is unclear due to bottom silt, green, with the smell of seaweed, but not dirty.
The coastal strip is about 1.5 km long. The average width is about 20 m, sometimes it is more or less, in addition, the ebb and flow phase affects. At high tide, the beach is very narrow, the entry into the sea is quite sharp, the water almost immediately to the waist. At low tide, the sea goes far, it becomes very shallow - lower than knee-deep - and for the depth to be to the waist, we must at least 10-15 m away from the coast.
The best place for swimming on this Pattaya beach, where the sea and coast are clear, is its central and southern part. The coating here is of yellow coarse sand, the bottom is quite flat. But there is not enough natural shadow: although there are trees, they are not dense and not a continuous strip. There are many sun loungers from hotels, and for rent you still need to find them, but you can lie on your towel.
The farther north, the more stony the shore and the seabed become, in places there are many shells - there is a risk of cutting your legs, it is better to walk in shoes. In addition, there is often wind, the sea becomes turbulent. There are no trees giving a natural shadow in the northern part of Wongamat - just like sunbeds and infrastructure.
Entertainment is organized in the central part of Wongamat. There, along the pedestrian path under palm trees, there is a small bazaar with fruits and various small things. On the south side of the beach there are several cafes and bars, a fish restaurant Rim Talay Seafood with discos in the evenings.
Wongamat is crowded during the high season, but compared to other Pattaya beaches, this one is still the cleanest and most deserted.
Pattaya beach
In the central part of Pattaya, along the entire Beach Street and the busy road of Beach Road, the Central Beach (Pattaya Beach) stretches for 4 km with a neat symmetrical arc.
This beach can not just be called clean, it is the most polluted in the city, and at the same time the most crowded and lively. Although they monitor cleanliness and periodically clean it, it doesn’t turn out very well: the water near the shore is dirty, various rubbish often floats in it, and it also exists on the shore. There are several reasons for this pollution:
- nearby, sewer pipes go right into the sea,
- on the south side of the beach is a pier with a lot of boats,
- many spree tourists often throw here a variety of waste from their vacation.
In general, the Central Beach of Pattaya is far from the best for swimming, although it is quite possible to walk along the coast covered with fine yellow sand, or sunbathe.
Pattaya Beach has stretches of varying widths, and the ebb and flow phases affect it. During high water, the width in places reaches 16 m, and in some places, especially where the sun loungers are in several rows, the beach turns into a narrow sandy strip. During low tide, the coast is much wider: the water goes tens of meters, turning the coastal strip into a swamp with shallows.
Here, a smooth entry into the water and almost always quiet, large waves are observed occasionally.
A wide pavement is laid along the beach strip, next to which trees grow in a dashed line. There is not too much natural shade, and the best solution is to rent a deck chair with an umbrella (40-50 baht). Restrooms and showers are across the road.
Pattaya Beach is the center of life of a large resort, so along it there is everything that tourists may need. There are large shopping centers (Big C Supercenter, Mike Shopping Mall, Central Festival), 7-Eleven and Family Mart shops, small shops, markets, clubs, restaurants. There are also enough sights: on the south side there is a park with an observation deck and a golden Buddha statue, on the nearby streets are the Alcazar show, the Ripley Museum, the Museum of 3D Art Gallery in Paradise.
Cozy Beach
Between the center of Pattaya and its southern part, on Cape Pratamnak, there are several picturesque beaches. One of them, located at the Cozy Beach Hotel, has the same name.
Sunbathing and swimming here are mainly guests of hotels located nearby. Although entry is allowed to all comers. But there are few "outside" guests at Cozee Beach in Pattaya, since walking from other areas is far and uncomfortable (through wastelands and construction sites), public transport does not go nearby - there is only a taxi or a rented car.
Another drawback of Cozy is that you need to go down to it (and then climb back) along a steep, albeit not very long staircase.
But no matter how difficult this beach is, it is included in the list of the best in Pattaya. In fact, this is a small cozy bay, which on the south side ends with a rocky cape, overgrown with small trees and grass. Here, at the cape, and in the water, and on the shore, there are a lot of sharp stones, besides, a storm sewer flows directly into the sea. The best place for swimming here is the middle of the beach and its other tip.
The water on Cozy is not the cleanest, it is unclear, but recognized as better than on other beaches in Pattaya. Garbage is still found: it floats in water, lies on fine light yellow sand.
The length of this beach is a little more than 600 m, width is 20-30 m. During low tide, the water leaves the shore for several meters, to the depth you need to go far forward along the ankle in the water. At high tide, entering the sea is quite sharp.
In the morning there is a lot of shade from the trees, you can sit on your own towel. In several rows are sunbeds with mattresses, umbrellas rise above them. Near the shore there are stalls with drinks and fruits.Find out RATES or book any accommodation using this form
Pratamnak Beach
At Cape Pratumnak there is a beach of the same name. It is surrounded on two sides by high cliffs, and its length is about 500 m.
Those tourists who are looking for which beach in Pattaya is the cleanest and best for swimming should definitely pay attention to Phratamnak. The central part of this beach, located opposite the entrance, and the part that is to the left of the entrance (if you face the sea) are the best manicured areas with carefully cleaned sand. On the right side, it’s not so clean and not too comfortable to relax, because there are large stones in the water near the shore.
At Phratamnak, the entry into the sea is gentle, the depth increases gradually. The coast is covered with yellow quartz sand interspersed with shell rock, and black silty patches with moss-covered stones are visible on the exposed seabed at low tide.
The water is not crystal clear, since a sand suspension with silt rises from the bottom. Garbage in water happens only after storms, but fortunately, there is almost always calm, even high waves are rare.
On the beach in several rows are sun loungers (40 baht) and sunbeds (100 baht) under umbrellas. There are also showers (20 baht) and toilets (10 baht).
There are no noisy discos, bars, clubs and other entertainment establishments in this area, but the infrastructure is well developed. In walking distance from the coast there are many catering establishments, massage parlors. There are fruit stalls, drinks, fast food at the beach all day.
In general, Pratamnak beach, considered one of the cleanest in the resort, is quite suitable for a relaxing and relaxing pastime. In addition, in Pattaya it is one of the best places for families with children.
Dongtan Beach
Dongtan, which is included in the list of the best and cleanest beaches in the city, is adjacent to Phratamnak. The length of Dongtan Beach is 1-1.5 km, the largest width is about 40 m, but mostly - 20 m.
The coast is covered with clean rather fine sand of gray-yellow color, in which there are small polished pieces of shells. The seabed is flat, the entrance to the water is gentle, the depth grows gradually. Almost along the entire beach strip, the swimming space is fenced with buoys - when viewed from above, it looks like a huge brace with a length of more than 900 m.
A palm alley stretches along the entire beach, a comfortable and clean pedestrian path is laid, trash bins are installed. Dongtan is a very calm and comfortable place, as much as possible in a large resort town. In general, the beach area is conditionally divided into southern, central and northern sections.
The southern part of Dongtan is a favorite gay holiday destination. Perhaps this is the only beach in Pattaya and Thailand where people of non-traditional sexual orientation gather in large numbers. In the nearest cafes, too, mostly just a couple of gays are sitting.
Dongtan Center is the most direct answer to the question "Are there clean beaches in Pattaya?" Largely due to the fact that expensive hotels and condominiums are located here, Dongtan is the cleanest and most infrastructureally developed beach in Pattaya. It offers the best conditions at the resort for a comfortable stay.
Here you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, there are 2 buildings with toilets and showers. A volleyball court is available on site, and a nearby hotel has a water park with slides and a pool. There are several decent cafes that serve Thai and European cuisines.
The northern section of Dongtan occupies the smallest area; it is the most unfavorable.
Jomtien Beach
Jomtien is popular not only among foreign tourists, but also among local residents. Although Jomtien is not considered the cleanest and best for swimming, it is very attractive in terms of civilization.
Details of this Pattaya beach are here.
Ambassador Beach
The small beach of the Ambassador is adjacent to the hotel complex of the same name, but the entrance to its territory is accessible to everyone. The complex is located at the entrance to Pattaya, and from the city you need to go there for about 40 minutes in tuk-tuks with a transfer.
The local beach area was artificially expanded and covered with imported yellow sand, but in some places shell placers are found. There are no stones in the water. At high tide, the entry into the sea is sharp, and at low tide to a greater depth you need to go a few meters in the water to the knee. By the way, the tides are not expressed as strongly as on the other beaches of Pattaya. The swimming area is surrounded by buoys.
The sea in the Ambassador is clean, although not perfect. Crystal clear water is never, however, even algae are almost never found here.
There is no natural shade on this beach, and even the sun loungers that the hotel offers do not have umbrellas.
There are no cabins for changing clothes on the territory, but there is a shower and a toilet, there is a foot crane, a special smoking area is equipped.
A small market is also present. Nearby are the 7-Eleven store and the Mimosa entertainment complex.

Bang Saray Beach
Of the beaches near Pattaya, southern Bang Sarai is among the cleanest and best. You can find it in the village of the same name 20 km from Pattaya. The road to it on a white tuk-tuk from the city center with a transfer takes about an hour.
Bang Saray Beach is sparsely populated and spacious: with a length of 3 km, its width is 10-20 m at high tides, and during low tides it increases by a couple of tens of meters.
The coastal cover is sandy. Grains of sand are relatively large, yellow-beige. Depth approach is smooth. The bottom is mostly sandy, but there are areas with silt, but there are no stones and pits. The safe swimming area is indicated by buoys.
The water is clean and clear, but at the slightest waves, silt rises from the bottom, which makes it very muddy.
The tourism industry in the village is just beginning to develop, only the most necessary infrastructure for a beach holiday has been created. There are no entertainment facilities yet, and there is nothing to do for young people eager for fun.
There are beach cafes, the usual menu for Thailand. When ordering food, customers are given rugs and low tables so that they can comfortably fit under a canopy. In some cafes, you can also take umbrellas and sun loungers or sun loungers.
Near Bang Saray there is a well-kept park with a toilet, anti-vandal sports equipment, gazebos. There is also a playground with an elastic coating, equipped with a variety of designs for the game.
Military Beach, or Sai Kaew Beach
Behind Bang Saray, on the territory of the military base, there is a clean and well-groomed beach, which many consider the best in Pattaya and the surrounding area. People come here to relax in the midst of picturesque nature, swim in the clear water and lie down on the clear sand.
