Interior doors in the interior
Each of us, without words, understands what functions an interior door performs - this is an element of the interior that no home or apartment can do without, which, from the point of view of functionality, provides isolation of a single room from prying eyes and ears.
However, for a modern person, the presence of a door as such is not enough. Facing the choice of which model to give preference to and choose the perfect option that will fit into the interior design of an apartment from such a large assortment on the market is not an easy task. Especially when you consider the design requirements for the door, because it must simultaneously delimit the space and combine it.
And if we consider the door leaf as a separate element, then some instances are in themselves a work of art, the mood of which can be difficult to adapt to achieve a harmonious combination with the overall picture of the room. As a result, it turns out that, it would seem, a momentary matter to choose a door turns into a real problem. And to cope with the task, you need to disassemble everything in order.
Door Design Choice
First of all, you need to determine the type of interior door. The choice of designs today is large enough, so the main criteria should be the features of the doorway, style, and the issue of saving space (if necessary).
The classics of the genre are single-wing and double-wing swing doors that will fit into any interior style. Such models can be with or without a threshold. For a single-leaf door, the opening can be left-sided or right-sided. The disadvantage of such a door is that when it opens, it takes up a lot of space, especially if its width is 90 cm. Recently, swing doors are swinging, which means that the opening mechanism allows the door to swing open both on itself and on its own.
One of the popular options today is a sliding door. This design is ideal when space is limited. Moreover, it can be installed on both straight and curved walls.
The well-known sliding door, whose canvases move along the guide rails attached to the ceiling and the floor, received a permanent residence permit in city apartments. The movement in such a door can be single-track or double-track, depending on the number of leaves. It is worth noting that this design is primitive, currently an improved suspension system allows you to not install the lower rails, which does not affect the uniform movement and strength. The advantage of this innovation is that you can make a single floor covering in the room, which is important enough to design a space in small rooms.
To save space, folding doors are ideal, the canvases of which are connected with special hinges. Such a door will look good in a wide opening and at the same time, opening, it will not take up much space, since two oar sheets will fold in half due to hinges. Combined doors will also be a good enough option. What does it mean? This is the combination of a swinging canvas with a sliding or accordion with a compartment door. For this purpose, many manufacturers produce entire collections of paintings of different types of opening in the same style with the same finish.
For a standard opening, the so-called roto-doors will be convenient. Opening such a door consists in the fact that first you need to pull it like a normal swing door, and pushing it to the middle, move it to the side. In the open state, the canvas stands across the jamb, remaining one half in the room, and the other goes outside.
Another popular option often used in apartments is sliding doors. The essence of this design is that the door slides either into a special drywall box, or directly onto the wall. In the latter case, you need to consider that close to the opening it will not be possible to put furniture so as not to cling to it.
When to buy a door
The choice of the door should be at the initial stage of repair planning and interior design. It is very important not to miss this moment, so as not to complicate the situation, spending extra time, money and own nerves in search of a suitable door. After all, it is much easier initially to adjust the opening for a specific door leaf at the repair stage than to look for a model of a certain size that would ideally fit also in design. Of course, this question does not exist if custom production is planned, but, as a rule, most choose doors from the store. Do not rely on the standard door size, as different manufacturers have different standards: for some, the box is 2000 mm high with a width of 600/700/800/900 mm, while for others with the same width the height is already 2100 or 2200 mm. And it may turn out that a suitable door model simply does not fit into the left opening. The same applies to other door designs. That is why it should be purchased in advance.
Height matters
We are all accustomed to the standard height of the doors, but more and more designers suggest not to be attached to this set value, relying on the fact that the high door leaf looks more effective and completely changes the perception of the whole space as a whole. In addition, the larger and higher the doorway, the more light and air penetrates through it, and, therefore, the room seems more spacious. And in this case, the height of the door should be known before it comes to the final interior decoration.
Door Design - Subtle
No matter what size the apartment is, be it 5 rooms or just 2, all the doors should be in the same style. And not only in one style, but also in the same height - this is the basic rule for every interior, although there is an opinion that there are no rules regarding door design. Even if the rooms of the apartment are decorated in different colors or styles, the doors in the apartment should not be full of a variety of shades and styles.
For the integrity of the perception of the room, all doors that go into one hall should be the same, even if it is planned to install different designs of door systems. And it is the design of this room, where all the doors are visible at a glance, should set them the tone and style.
Warm reddish shades will harmoniously fit into the style of country and ethnicity, while bringing coziness to the room. For the classical style, you should choose either light or rich dark tones, and the darker the doors, the stricter the interior of the room.
In a minimalist interior, both light and dark doors will look good, but they should have as little decoration as possible. But in modern styles, such as high-tech, the doors of any saturated color will fit.
The correct solution for the design of the apartment will be a single floor covering, the color of which selects all interior doors. However, this option is sometimes inappropriate, because somewhere carpet is laid, somewhere is parquet, and somewhere is tile. And here you need to find a compromise solution - choose one general shade that would be combined with the floor decoration of all rooms. And so that the doors fit harmoniously into the interior, it will need to be supplemented with some decorative elements of the corresponding color.
Another option that may become the criterion for choosing the color scheme of door leafs is furniture. There is nothing easier than tying the color of a door to the prevailing color of furniture. Moreover, it does not have to be identical, it can be made a few tones lighter or vice versa darker.
It is worth noting that even if the door is glass, its color should be carefully selected for the general situation, although this does not exclude the possibility that it can be a contrast in the room or, moreover, carry some decorative notes, such as stained glass compositions or mirror designs.
Door material
Particular attention must be paid to the material of the door. Here, of course, the price category plays an important role in the choice, although now the choice is so great that even with a limited amount of money, it is quite possible to choose a decent option for your home. To date, three types of material for door systems are common:
- Doors made of fiberboard are in great demand, but of this material the doors are only trimmed, the frame is made of wood. Along with pluses, such as lightness and low price, there are also disadvantages - such a door is not strong, does not provide good sound insulation and is not suitable for rooms with high humidity.
- MDF doors are much more expensive, but this is offset by strength and sound insulation and greater moisture resistance.
- Solid wood doors are an elite; such models are always held in high esteem and are not cheap. It can be deaf paneling or with decorative glass inserts. To reduce the cost of such a canvas, pine is often used, which is trimmed with natural veneer. This is also done in order to reduce the weight of the door itself. In addition, a veneered door is not like a clean tree reacts to humidity, which is important enough for the functionality of the door.
It is worth noting that each of these doors can have its own decorative elements and design solutions in the form of glass inserts, embossed patterns and design features. And in order to pick up a door that will fit into the interior and become its integral part, you need to carefully consider the entire design of the room before proceeding with the repair.
