Modern monastery in France: continuation of centuries-old traditions

Most likely, not everyone will be able to recognize in this representative two-story building, decorated in a Mediterranean style, a functioning monastery. Institutions of this type, as a rule, have a more strict and unsightly appearance. However, even more surprises await us inside the modern monastery.

Taking this opportunity, we will examine all the most interesting rooms of this unusual institution, which today performs the same functions as the monasteries built several centuries ago.

Features of the appearance of the building

This active French monastery is located in a very colorful place. Squat two-story building with a "G" - shaped, almost immersed in bright greenery. Against the background of the building, decorative shrubs and picturesque trees scattered across the lawn stand out as a bright spot.

The walls of the monastery are made of grayish stone. The main entrance to the building (portal), located in the corner of the building, has an arched shape. The windows of the first floor have the same shape, the rectangular openings of which are fantastically inscribed in an arched arched structure. The sloping roof of the building is decorated with a row of attic tower windows.

The monastery has a rectangular courtyard, limited on all sides by a covered gallery (cloister). An arched corridor with columns leads us to a beautiful front garden where you can find an old well and unpretentious wildflowers.

Thanks to the open terrace, you can enjoy the appearance of the courtyard without leaving the building.

Here we find everything that is necessary for outdoor recreation:
- comfortable chairs;
- small sofas;
- graceful wooden tables;
- convenient lighting with a floor lamp.

Interior design of a modern monastery complex

All the main premises of the monastery have access to the cloister - a rectangular covered gallery with bizarre columns and arches. Inside the building, another long gallery is discovered, decorated with a Gothic cruciform vault. The walls of this hall are decorated with yellowish-gray stone, the space under the roof is lined with small bricks of the same shade.

Indoors there are many soft sofas and benches for novices. In the central part of the room you can see several oblong table-shaped tables used for eating and storing all kinds of things.

The hall is illuminated with the help of several lamps under the lampshades on high legs with stable bases. During the day, light enters the room through a double window in the end of the gallery.

A rather steep spiral staircase, lined with light brick, leads to the second floor. When climbing up, you can use wrought iron railings with exquisite floral ornaments. Light falls on the landing through an arched window covered with a thin grille. In the dark, this zone is illuminated with the help of original lamps suspended from a high metal stand.

Capitul Hall

The meeting room plays a huge role in the life of the inhabitants of the monastery. At this point, the monastic community gathers to discuss the most important issues. Such events include the issuance of vestments to novices or the election of an abbot.

In the end part of the vaulted room you can see the place of the head of the monastery - a separate table, illuminated with the help of several floor lamps.

In the center of the hall, under a cruciform stone arch, there is a long table with a light tabletop, surrounded on all sides by many folding wooden chairs.

The room is quite dark, as light seeps through several narrow window openings. It is easy to notice a large number of thick candles placed in special recesses of the table, as well as towering on thin candlesticks. These attributes are used when conducting services.

Dining room (refectory)

The monastic refectory is located in the corner of the building. The interior of the hall has a fairly modern look. It is hard to believe that this comfortable room with furniture made from the latest materials is the place where novices of the monastery eat.

In the refectory you can see:
- cozy soft armchairs with gray upholstery on high but stable wooden legs;
- extremely comfortable sofas equipped with high soft backs;
- small tables with square wooden countertops;
- oblong table-table for storing dishes;
- chandelier of the original form;
- a long mirror.

The floors in the room of the monastic dining room are lined with light decorative tiles, and only in some parts of the hall are carpeted with a thin coating of expressive blue.

Monastic Beds

Separate rooms are provided for the novice's rest in a modern monastery. The floors in these cells are covered with thin carpets.

In addition to comfortable wide beds, the following items of furniture and accessories are available:
- small armchairs with thin legs;
- folding tables;
- compact wooden bedside tables;
- pendant lights.

Some rooms are equipped with soft sofas decorated with discreet decorative pillows. In these cells you can also see comfortable armchairs with bent legs and plastic coffee tables on the same stable bases.

Bathrooms adjoin the beds, where novices can wash and take a shower.
